Castilla y León lands wine

Finca la Capilla is a boutique winery in the heart of Ribera del Duero D.O. in the province of Burgos. It boasts 60 hectares of our own vineyards in the areas of Roa, Anguix and La Horra.

Finca La Capilla is located in a mountainous region and harbours a small plot of about 2,000 Merlot plants of around 40 years old called “La Cofradía”. The soil is rich and slightly clayey, the strong ferrous layers favour the great personality inof this lively and intense wine.

Harsh dry winter, with severe frosts. Milder temperatures in spring with average rainfall. Long summer days, with reasonable temperatures, avoiding any problems of water stress or vegetative standstill. The autumn months enjoyed optimum temperatures and conditions for complete ripening.

Although this variety comes earlier that the Tinta del País from Ribera del Duero, we delay harvesting until skin and grains reach optimum ripeness, not becoming rasin-like which is a risk of this variety.
The harvest is carried out by hand and collected in boxes in the early hours of one morning. The date is decided after numerous tastings during the preceding days. Bunches of grapes are checked on a sorting table where expert hands can discard any damaged grapes. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts with moderate extraction in small stainless-steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in new fine-grained French oak barrels. Once finalized the wine rests for a further 10 months in these barrels.

Full-bodied and intense wine with an expressive aroma. Wide range of red fruits, redcurrants and plums with notes of honey, toast, spices and dark chocolate. Harmonious and ample palate with polished tannins that exude elegance and distinction.
