Selection of small plots of vineyards from our winery
Selection of small plots of vineyards from our winery
60 hectares of our own vineyards in our estate, located in the municipalities of Roa,
La Horra and Anguix, with different types of soils and ripening dates, with detailed
delimitation. Special selection taken from the best corners of the estate, from areas of very low production. Plantation grafted by hand in the field, with vine shoots selected from old vines in the area. Vineyards located at an altitude of 867m. Most of this wine comes from the Picón de la 1, La Cofradía plots. The vines, trellised, are 47 years old.
Interesting diversity of soils of excellent viticultural qualities. Predominantly older soils, of tertiary origin, poor and with limited levels of organic matter. A light sandy loam texture, with very good airing and drainage conditions. There are corners, or picones as they are called locally, of limey sands with whitish layers providing elegance and finesse.
A year of abundant rainfall especially during the winter and spring months, providing
excellent water reserves that ensured a favourable vegetative cycle in the midst of a
hot, dry summer. Blossoming and budding were very good. An adequate and well-balanced crop, together with an in-depth handling of the vegetation, allowed the grapes to ripen completely, resulting in a harvest that was slightly later than in normal years, but not by much.
Totally manual process, meticulously selecting the areas of the estate with the best vines, picking out cluster by cluster from each plant. Small crates of grapes are placed on a sorting table after a time in cold storage.
Separate elaboration of small fractions of the estate. Separate vatting in small tanks and differentiated aging of each part of the winemaking process. Slow whole grain fermentation using indigenous yeast. Lengthy maceration, while avoiding over-extraction. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. All movements by gravity, undertaken with the utmost care.
18 months in Bordeaux French oak barrels. 80% new barrels and 20% barrels of one wine.
More than 20 months ageing in bottle prior to launch date.
Intense, vibrant colour, with no trace of change. An all-enveloping aroma, unpretentious but with a fruity depth. The oak complements without overpowering the wine. Elegant and smooth on the palate. Lengthy, very persistent. Aged and refined over time, aiming to achieve both structure and finesse, albeit without excessive potency.
